Capitol Reef now lists two apple orchards reopened. Road warnings remain.

Capitol Reef’s current NPS page lists Jackson and Chesnut orchards reopened for remaining apples. The separate October 15 road table still lists Capitol Gorge closed and many remote routes unknown, likely impassable. Check the fruit and road lines before traveling. [4] [1] [2]

Check NPS’s dated notices before departure. Its published phone menu is 435-425-3791, then 1 and 4 for roads or 1 and 5 for orchards. Confirm the destination; neither listing guarantees conditions on arrival. →

Understand the story.

Two orchard notices changed

NPS now lists Jackson and Chesnut reopened for remaining apples. Krueger is listed open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The orchard section retains an October 15 heading; the page says last updated October 16 and gives no reopening hour. Fruit availability can change. [4]

Orchard access is not road clearance

The separate October 15 table still lists Capitol Gorge closed and Sulphur Creek muddy, not recommended. Scenic Drive and Grand Wash are listed for 2WD vehicles. Multiple Waterpocket and Cathedral Valley routes remain unknown, likely impassable; the orchard update does not establish that those routes improved. [1] [2]

Check the right recorded line

NPS says its road webpage is updated weekly and the phone line is more current. Call 435-425-3791, choose 1 for information, then 4 for roads or 5 for orchard and fruit information. Conditions can change after this check; confirm the specific destination before setting out. [3] [4]
