In Isiro, Ebola care expands while ordinary hospital care returns

WHO reports an Isiro Ebola centre expanding from 40 to 50 beds while ordinary hospital patients return. That is progress in care capacity; the outbreak continues. [1] [2] [3]

More room for care

WHO’s October 23 account describes ten additional Ebola-treatment beds in Isiro, alongside water, electricity and equipment improvements. The new report provides a concrete picture of service recovery; it does not say the expansion happened that day. [1]

A hospital has other patients, too

Pregnant women, children and people with other illnesses still need care during an outbreak. WHO quotes the hospital director saying ordinary patients are returning. His roughly 55 hospitalized patients cannot be compared with the Ebola centre’s 50 beds as an occupancy rate. [2]

Keep the hope bounded

The outbreak continues. The report says ERVEBO’s effectiveness against Bundibugyo remains under study. Use WHO’s Ebola information to understand symptoms and the importance of early care; it does not identify an available local clinic or prove a treatment guarantee. [3]
