Twenty Kenyan contacts finish Ebola quarantine; monitoring continues for 98

WHO reports that 20 asymptomatic contacts completed 21-day quarantine and returned to their families on October 26. Ninety-eight remain quarantined. The welcome milestone is specific to those released; it does not establish that Kenya’s outbreak is over. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Understand the story.

A specific group returns home

WHO’s October 26 record says the 20 contacts completed monitoring without symptoms and received final assessment and counselling. That is a completed milestone for those families. It does not give an individual reader medical clearance. [1]

The response is still active

The same record says 98 contacts remain quarantined and eight contacts developed confirmed infection while already in quarantine. WHO reports nine connected cases and two deaths. Its statement of no evidence of community spread remains a dated surveillance assessment. [2] [3]

Keep the limits beside the numbers

WHO also mentions 135 traced contacts but does not fully reconcile that total with the displayed status groups. No percentage is calculated. Use WHO’s guidance for symptoms and care, and follow the health team responsible for any personal monitoring instructions. [4]
