NC-01’s latest campaign notices cover different receipt days
October 24 notices list $29,000 for Don Davis’s committee and $26,705.08 for Laurie Buckhout’s, but cover different receipt days. They give voters a look at qualifying late receipts, not a fundraising ranking. Tom Bailey is also on the official ballot; missing records are not zero money. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Understand the story.
The filing date is not the receipt period
Davis’s three-page notice lists 12 receipts dated October 22 and 23. Buckhout’s two-page notice lists nine, all dated October 23. Adding each document gives $29,000 and $26,705.08 respectively. The shared filing date does not turn these lists into a comparison of one day’s fundraising. [1] [2]
Why this slice cannot rank campaigns
Form 6 covers qualifying last-minute contributions, including some loans and in-kind contributions. It leaves out smaller receipts and is not cash on hand or spending. FEC says the receipts also go in the next regular report; adding both reports would double-count them. [3]
Keep the third candidate visible
The official general-election list also names Libertarian Tom Bailey. His identified historical committee returned no 2026 filings, and the current-cycle committee search returned none. That is a search result, not proof he has no money. Buckhout’s two other returned authorized committees are outside this explicitly selected principal-committee comparison. [4]
Follow the records to a federal choice
This district chooses a House member who participates in federal lawmaking and budget decisions. A notice shows reported campaign support, not a promise’s feasibility, donor influence or a winner. Use FEC’s guide and the original notices; compare complete regular reports only under matching periods and categories. [5] [3]

What remains open.
- Different receipt-date spans and notice thresholds prevent a whole-day or campaign-total fundraising ranking.
- Bailey’s missing current-cycle committee/filings do not establish zero receipts; undisclosed activity and database completeness are not independently audited.
- No comparable candidate policy platform account, independent-spending total, cash comparison or verified House-control seat arithmetic is established.
