MPR’s November 2 report says state officials announced one House minority-caucus observer each for Hennepin and Olmsted counties, alongside separate DOJ monitoring plans naming Hennepin and Ramsey. These are attributed plans. Attendance and current permission to enter polling places have not been verified. [1] [2]

The reporting question: Which Minnesota observer plans are being announced, and what remains unverified?

Two different announced roles

MPR’s Ellie Roth reported the statements by Secretary of State Steve Simon and elections director Paul Linnell. The House minority-caucus observers were announced for Hennepin and Olmsted. The report separately named Hennepin and Ramsey for DOJ monitoring plans. These institutions and county lists should not be collapsed into one assignment. [1] [2]

An announcement is not an attendance record

The report said Simon described the House majority caucus as having so far declined to send observers. That was his November 2 account. We have not captured a direct House deployment notice, verified attendance or reviewed a new order establishing particular powers. Observer plans alone establish no misconduct or result. [3] [1] [2]

A plan does not establish indoor access

In an October 22 MPR interview, Simon described the counties denying federal monitors indoor access during August’s primary and said he did not know whether they had decided for November. That dated account is background, not today’s rule. We have not verified current permission to enter polling places. [4]

Use the responsible election office for help

Hennepin residents can use the county’s official elections page to reach Election Day voting, accessibility and election-security information. The announced observer list does not set polling rules, certify returns or replace the responsible local office. We have not observed Election Day outcomes. [1] [2]
